The Pearlescent Almond Green tone from the Kaleido RapidAir™ series offers soft reflections and a luminous finish straight from the bottle, undiluted. Compatible with airbrushes of 0.3 to 0.5 mm, water-based acrylic formulation, non-toxic and fast-drying. Perfect for slot car bodies, static models, and collector's pieces.
Kaleido K309: the pearlescent almond green that brings slot car bodies, models, and collector figures to life
The Kaleido Colorworks RapidAir™ range from Gaahleri was created to solve the most common issues with water-based acrylic paints when applied with an airbrush: pigment build-up at the edges, unwanted droplets, and an uneven finish that requires multiple passes over the piece. The shade K309 Pearlescent Almond Green is part of this family and inherits all its advanced formulation technology.
Main features
- Pearlescent finish: the nacre effect pigments react to light from different angles, creating an elegant and dynamic appearance that enhances every relief of the piece.
- Ready to use: the factory viscosity is adjusted for airbrushes with a 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm nozzle; no dilution is necessary before application.
- Water-based acrylic formulation: non-toxic composition, with no strong odours and easy cleaning with water.
- RapidAir™ technology: the formula flows to form a continuous and smooth layer, minimizing pigment build-up and surface defects.
- 20 ml bottle with reference GA-49655A.
Applications: what types of projects is it ideal for?
This pearlescent almond green fits naturally into three major disciplines of the hobby:
- Slot: the adjusted viscosity and scratch-resistant finish make it a very interesting option for lacquering 1/32 and 1/24 scale bodies, where detail and durability coexist with the demands of the track.
- Static models: the pearlescent effect adds depth to automotive or aviation body finishes where an unconventional tone is sought.
- Figures and dioramas: on small surfaces, the pearlescent pigment acts as a subtle metallic effect that adds character without overwhelming the piece.
Compatibility
Thanks to its excellent adhesion, Kaleido K309 can be applied directly to the most common substrates in modelling: resin, metal, ABS, and plastics in general. It does not require a prior primer in most cases, although it is always recommended to test on a scrap piece before working on the final piece. It is compatible with acrylic varnishes in matte, satin, or glossy finishes to protect and modulate the pearlescent effect according to the desired result.
Application tips
- Shake the bottle well before use to homogenise the pearlescent pigments.
- Work with compressor pressure between 15 and 20 psi to achieve a fine and even atomisation.
- Apply in thin and successive layers — better two or three light coats than a single thick coat — to maintain the fluidity of the pearlescent effect.
- Clean the airbrush with water after each work session; if the paint has begun to dry on the needle, a little isopropyl alcohol will facilitate cleaning.
- Allow to dry completely between layers before applying the finishing varnish.
Possible finishes
The K309 comes from the factory with a base pearlescent finish. Depending on the final varnish you apply over it, you can achieve very different variations: a glossy varnish will intensify the nacre reflections, a satin finish will soften them slightly, and a matte finish will integrate them into a more subdued finish. Experiment in small test areas to find the balance that best suits your project.
Frequently asked questions
Is it necessary to dilute the paint before using it in the airbrush?
No. The RapidAir™ series is formulated with the ideal viscosity for 0.3 to 0.5 mm airbrushes, so it can be applied directly from the bottle without adding thinner.
Can I apply it with a brush instead of an airbrush?
The formulation is optimised for airbrush use. With a brush, it may leave more visible brush marks as it is a low viscosity paint. If you need to apply it with a brush, test first on a scrap surface.
On which materials does it work well without primer?
According to the product information, it adheres directly to resin, metal, ABS, and various plastics. On very smooth or polished surfaces, a light primer may improve long-term adhesion.
Is it compatible with varnishes from other brands like Vallejo or Tamiya?
In general, water-based acrylic varnishes from brands like Vallejo or Tamiya are compatible with this acrylic base. It is always recommended to do a preliminary test, especially with solvent-based varnishes, to avoid unwanted reactions.
How much coverage does a 20 ml bottle provide on a slot car body?
It depends on the number of layers and the size of the piece, but for standard 1/32 bodies, a 20 ml bottle is usually sufficient to cover several pieces with two or three thin layers.
Does the pearlescent effect remain after applying the varnish?
Yes, although the intensity of the reflection may vary depending on the type of varnish. A glossy varnish enhances the effect; a matte one softens it. In no case does it completely eliminate it.
