Cobra High-End Bodywork Varnish Catalyst 30ml

€9.00
Tax included

Catalyst formulated by AMMO to activate the 2K Clear Varnish from the Cobra Motor range. When mixed in a 2:1 ratio, it triggers the chemical reaction that provides extreme hardness, deep gloss, and long-lasting resistance to the body of your static models or competition models. 30 ml container.

The component that turns your 2K varnish into a brilliant and durable shell

When the final finish of a scale body leaves no room for compromise, the chemistry of the two-component system comes into play. This catalyst from the Cobra Motor by AMMO line (reference AMIG2262) is the hardener specifically formulated to work alongside the 2K Clear Varnish from the same range. Without it, the varnish does not achieve its working hardness nor develops its full resistance to abrasion, solvents, and handling.

Technical function: what happens when you mix catalyst and varnish

The 2K varnish is a two-component system that remains inactive until the catalyst is incorporated in the correct proportion. At that moment, a polymerization reaction begins, transforming the liquid mixture into a solid layer of high resistance, with a crystal-clear transparency that does not yellow over time. The result is a self-leveling surface, with deep gloss and an appearance similar to that of real vehicles on display.

Mixing ratio and preparation

  • Base ratio: 2 parts of 2K Clear Varnish to 1 part of this catalyst.
  • Additional fluidity: If you need a more fluid consistency for extra thin layers with an airbrush, you can incorporate the specific thinner from the same Cobra Motor range.
  • Pot life: Once the two components are mixed, the working time is limited; prepare only the amount you will use in the session.

Airbrush application tips

  • Environmental control: Clean the work area before spraying. Spraying a little clean water into the air helps settle dust and prevents it from adhering to the wet layer.
  • Model handling: Hold the body from its inner part with a support. Use powder-free gloves to prevent craters and grease marks.
  • Spraying technique: First apply a very thin anchoring layer, let it evaporate for about 2 minutes, and continue with a more loaded layer at low pressure (around 1 bar / 14 psi) to achieve a wet and even finish without runs.
  • Curing: Protect the model under a clean cover and let it dry for 24 to 48 hours before any subsequent polishing process.

Applications: for which models it is intended

This system is designed for those seeking maximum realism in the painting of scale bodies:

  • Static automotive models: Reproduces the visual depth and showcase appearance of high-end sports and GT cars.
  • Slot racing competition models: The hardness provided by the 2K curing protects the decoration and decals from the stress and abrasions inherent to track use.
  • Collectibles and dioramas: Any work where the varnish layer must remain intact over the long term.

Safety and ventilation

As this is a technical two-component product, it is essential to work in a properly ventilated space and to use a mask with an appropriate filter throughout the airbrush spraying phase. Consult the product safety data sheet before use.

Frequently asked questions

Is this catalyst compatible with other 2K varnishes from different brands?

It is formulated and tested specifically for the 2K Clear Varnish from the Cobra Motor range by AMMO. We do not recommend mixing it with varnishes from other brands, as the proportions and chemical reactions may vary and compromise the final result.

What is the exact mixing ratio?

The recommended ratio is 2 parts of varnish to 1 part of catalyst (2:1). If you need greater fluidity for the airbrush, add the specific thinner from the same range in small amounts until the desired viscosity is reached.

Can I store the prepared mixture for use another day?

No. Once the two components are mixed, the chemical reaction is irreversible and the pot life is limited. Prepare only the amount you will apply in the session to avoid wasting product.

How long does it need to cure completely?

It is recommended to leave the model covered for 24 to 48 hours before handling or starting any polishing process. Complete curing ensures maximum hardness and resistance of the layer.

Can it be applied with a brush instead of an airbrush?

The formulation of this 2K varnish is optimized for airbrush spraying, which takes advantage of its self-leveling properties. Brush application is not the recommended technique for this type of product.

Are 30 ml sufficient for several bodies?

The yield depends on the number of layers and the size of the pieces, but for standard scale models (1:24, 1:32), a 30 ml container is enough to work on several bodies, provided the mixing ratio is respected and waste is avoided.

The AMMO Cobra Motor 2K Clear Lacquer Hardener (AMIG2262) is the essential catalyst for achieving a showroom-quality gloss finish on scale model car bodywork. Designed for airbrush application, this 30 ml hardener triggers the chemical curing reaction of the 2K clear coat system, delivering outstanding scratch resistance, crystal-clear transparency, and long-lasting durability. Ideal for static scale models, slot car bodywork, and high-end display pieces where a professional automotive finish is required.
