Tamiya PS-8 Light Green spray paint, 100 ml, specially formulated for polycarbonate (lexan) bodies and plastics. It provides a bright light green colour with excellent adhesion and even coverage, without attacking the base material.

Light green with the adhesion that polycarbonate demands

The Tamiya PS-8 Light Green Spray (ref. TA86008) belongs to the PS range, the line of spray paints that Tamiya developed specifically for polycarbonate surfaces and flexible plastics. Unlike conventional paint, the PS formula is designed not to crack or attack lexan, the most common material used in slot car bodies and some model and figure parts.

Main features

  • Capacity: 100 ml per can.
  • Colour: Light Green, reference PS-8.
  • Main support: Polycarbonate (lexan) and plastics.
  • Finish: Uniform, with good colour intensity.
  • Application: Direct spray, no airbrush needed.

Applications

The Tamiya PS range was created with lexan-bodied radio control models in mind, but its use has naturally extended to the slot car world: flexible plastic bodies, inverted masks, and any project where the support cannot tolerate aggressive solvents. It is also useful in static models and dioramas when working with polycarbonate or soft plastic parts that other paints could damage.

Compatibilities

Formulated to adhere directly to polycarbonate without prior priming in most cases, although a light degreasing of the surface always improves the result. Compatible with the other colours in the Tamiya PS range, allowing for mixing and gradients when applied before the previous layer fully cures. Not recommended on surfaces already painted with enamels or other incompatible bases without prior testing.

Finishes

The PS-8 offers a finish with good colour depth. On slot car bodies, the usual technique is to apply it from the inside of the transparent body, so the colour is protected by the lexan itself and gains brightness when viewed from the outside.

Application tips

  • Shake the can well for at least one minute before spraying.
  • Apply in thin, successive layers, allowing to dry between each one to avoid runs.
  • On slot car bodies, always work from the inside to protect the colour with the polycarbonate itself.
  • Use quality masking tape to delineate areas and achieve clean edges.
  • The ideal application temperature is around 20 °C; avoid high humidity.
  • Ensure good ventilation in the workspace.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this spray on regular plastic, not just on lexan?

Yes. Although the PS range is optimised for polycarbonate, it also adheres to conventional model plastics. However, for pure styrene plastic, there are other Tamiya ranges, such as TS, that may provide a better finish for that support.

Do I need primer before applying PS-8?

On clean and degreased polycarbonate, it is usually not necessary. On other plastics or porous surfaces, a layer of compatible primer improves adhesion and colour uniformity.

How long does it take to dry?

Tamiya indicates a touch dry time of approximately 30 minutes under normal conditions (20 °C). Complete curing for handling without risk may require several additional hours.

Can I varnish over it?

Yes, although it is advisable to check the compatibility of the chosen varnish with the polycarbonate base. On slot car bodies painted from the inside, varnish is usually not necessary because the lexan itself protects the paint.

Is this spray compatible with vinyl masks or masking tape?

Yes. Wait for the base layer to be well dried before placing the mask to avoid lifting the paint when removing it. Low-tack masking tape is the safest option on lexan.

The Tamiya PS-8 Light Green spray paint (100 ml, ref. TA86008) is part of the Tamiya PS polycarbonate series, engineered for lexan bodies used in slot car racing and RC models. Its solvent-balanced formula bonds firmly to flexible plastics without crazing or lifting the material. Ideal for slot car body painting, static scale models and dioramas where polycarbonate or soft plastics are involved. A reliable choice for hobbyists looking for a consistent, vibrant light green finish straight from the can.
