Intense fluorescent pink for polycarbonate bodies: the Tamiya TA86029 spray paint in 100 ml provides even coverage and a bright colour that stands out on track or in the display case.

The fluorescent pink from Tamiya that transforms any polycarbonate body

The range of spray paints for polycarbonate from Tamiya is one of the most established references in modelling and body customisation. The reference TA86029, in Fluorescent Pink, is specifically formulated to adhere to polycarbonate (PC) surfaces, the usual material in slot car bodies and lexan models, offering flexibility and durability without cracking or chipping with use.

Main features

  • Volume: 100 ml
  • Colour: Fluorescent Pink
  • Support: Formulated for polycarbonate (lexan / PC)
  • Finish: High visibility fluorescent
  • Format: Direct application spray, no airbrush needed

Applications

This paint is designed for painting on the inside of transparent polycarbonate bodies, a common technique in the slot car and lexan model world. By applying from the inside, the colour layer is protected by the body itself, significantly extending the durability of the finish against scratches and impacts.

It can also be used in static modelling projects, figures, and dioramas as long as the receiving surface is polycarbonate or another compatible plastic.

Compatibilities

The Tamiya PS range — to which this TA86029 belongs — is developed for polycarbonate. It is not recommended as a main paint on styrene plastic (conventional rigid plastic models), where it would be more appropriate to use the TS range from the same brand or other references from Vallejo, Kaleido, or Ammo. For polycarbonate surfaces, however, it is the right choice.

Finishes and fluorescent colour

The Fluorescent Pink shade stands out for its brightness even under artificial light. On track, it facilitates visual identification of the car at high speed. On display or in a figure, it adds a point of vibrancy and contrast that standard colours do not achieve. Tamiya's fluorescents are especially valued for their intensity once the colour is cured.

Application tips

  • Shake the can vigorously for at least 2-3 minutes before use.
  • Apply in thin and even layers, preferably in a well-ventilated environment and at a temperature between 15 and 25 °C.
  • For slot car bodies, apply on the inside of the clean and degreased body.
  • Allow to dry between layers to avoid product build-up and drips.
  • If you seek greater opacity, apply a second layer of white or black over the fluorescent (always from the inside) once the colour is dry.
  • After use, invert the can and press for a few seconds to purge the valve and extend the life of the spray.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this paint on styrene or resin plastic?

The Tamiya PS range is optimised for polycarbonate. It may adhere to styrene, but it is not its recommended use and the result may vary. For rigid plastic of conventional models, the Tamiya TS range or acrylic paints from Vallejo or Ammo are more suitable options.

Is it applied on the outside or inside of the body?

In slot car and transparent lexan bodies, the correct technique is to apply the paint on the inside. This way, the colour is sealed under the polycarbonate and protected from external abrasion.

Do I need to prime before painting?

On clean and degreased polycarbonate, it is not essential. However, if the surface has had previous treatments or shows remnants of other paints, a layer of compatible primer will improve adhesion.

How long does it take to dry?

Under normal conditions (ambient temperature between 15-25 °C), the paint becomes touch dry in a few minutes, but it is recommended to wait at least 30-60 minutes between layers and a complete cure of several hours before handling the piece.

Is it compatible with other paints from the Tamiya PS range?

Yes. The entire Tamiya PS range is designed to work together, allowing you to combine colours, apply masks between layers, and overlay tones to create custom designs.
