Silicone with a viscosity of 650CPS specifically for the treatment of slot tyres. When applied correctly, it optimises grip on track and stabilises the car's behaviour in corners and straights.

The silicone that makes a difference in your tyres' performance

The Silicone 650CPS (ref. MP010-650) is a medium-high viscosity silicone oil formulated for the treatment and conditioning of rubber tyres in slot cars. With a viscosity of 650 centipoise (CPS), it offers a sought-after balance by enthusiasts: enough body to penetrate and soften the rubber compound, without being overly aggressive or leaving residues that could contaminate the track.

What is CPS viscosity and why does it matter?

In the world of slot racing, not all silicones are the same. Viscosity, measured in centipoise (CPS), determines the fluid's density and, therefore, the depth of its action on the tyre:

  • Low viscosity silicones (100–350 CPS): penetrate quickly, soften faster and more intensely. Suitable for very hard rubbers or short sessions.
  • Medium-high viscosity silicones (500–1000 CPS): more controlled and progressive action. Ideal for preparing tyres before a prolonged session or competition.
  • High viscosity silicones (>1000 CPS): slow and superficial action, commonly used for maintenance or as a protector.

The 650CPS falls within that medium-high range, making it a versatile option: suitable for both standard rubber tyres and harder compounds, providing progressive and lasting grip without compromising the tyre's integrity with excessive softening.

Recommended applications

  • Pre-treatment before a practice or competition session.
  • Conditioning new tyres to shorten the warming-up period.
  • Reviving tyres that have lost grip due to prolonged storage.
  • Use on club circuits where the track has a certain level of dirt or accumulated dust.

Compatibility

Compatible with the vast majority of rubber tyres used in 1/32 and 1/24 scale slot cars, regardless of the manufacturer. Its use is common in preparations for cars with universal track (Scalextric, Ninco) and Sport track (Scaleauto, Slot.it), without distinction of track system.

Application tips

  • Apply a small amount onto a clean cloth or directly onto the tyre with the help of a cotton swab.
  • Spread evenly across the entire contact surface.
  • Allow to act for a few minutes before placing the car on the track, so that the silicone penetrates the compound.
  • Avoid contact with the track's contact surface: excess silicone can reduce grip for all cars running on that lane.
  • A moderate and regular application is more effective than a single excessive application.

Points to consider

The silicone is not a substitute for a good sanding and truing process of the tyre. To achieve maximum performance, combine it with properly trued and centred tyres on the axle. Also, keep in mind that the effect varies depending on the rubber compound: silicone tyres (like those used in some racing categories) do not respond the same way as conventional rubber tyres.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I let the silicone act before running?

With a viscosity of 650CPS, between 3 and 10 minutes is sufficient in most cases. If the tyre is very hard or very dry, you can let it act longer or apply a second light coat.

Can I use this silicone on foam tyres?

Foam tyres behave differently with silicone oils. It is not their primary application and the results can be unpredictable. For foam, specifically consult products indicated for that type of compound.

Does it affect the plastic of the chassis or bodywork?

Silicone is generally compatible with the plastics commonly used in slot racing. However, avoid prolonged contact with painted surfaces or decals, as it could affect the finish.

How often should I apply it?

It depends on the track conditions and the tyre compound. In club conditions, many drivers apply silicone before each session or every two sessions. Personal experience and track running are the best guides.

Is it the same silicone used in competition?

The 650CPS viscosity is one of the most used in club and advanced amateur competition environments. However, each driver adjusts the product and application technique according to the type of circuit, ambient temperature, and tyre compound.

Silicone oil 650CPS for slot car tyres — reference MP010-650. Medium-high viscosity silicone fluid designed to enhance grip and tyre flexibility in 1/32 and 1/24 scale slot cars.
